Jisan Ryu Jiyeong(1828-1896) who served as a Useungji of Seungjeongwon(an accounting official of Royal Secretariat), Daesagan of Saganwon(Chief censor of Office of Censors) and Andongbusa(Local Administrator of Andong) inherited the house when he moved out from his parents’ place after his marriage in Yeomhaengdang House in 1841.

Jisan, the last disciple who was educated in Toegye ideology, studied here and filled various government posts after he passed the civil service examination in 1857.

He modelled himself on great integrity, cherished conscience and cultivated heaven-ordained being. Also, he named "Jonyangdang" as a nickname of his house.

The main gate of historic house(Daemunchae) has crumbled for 200 years, but Anchae, Ahraechae and Sarangchae with more than 30 rooms have been well preserved until now.

Especially, Jisanlu, one of a few Sarangchaes, is creating an atmosphere of Jeongsa(a pavilion-shaped house with a nice view) that is built to improve people’s minds and bodies. 

Historic house is definitely standing out by being enhanced the feeling of space because of its wide-open yard with the grass, a vast parking lot, and a vegetable garden at present, too.
